Who is Tantalus?
son of Zeus' - frequently a dinner guest of the gods
What does Tantalus do?
decides to try to test the gods omniscience... invites the gods to dinner
What do they have for dinner?
Tantalus chops his son Pelops into the gods food
Only who is fooled by Tantalus trick? Why? What part of Pelops did she eat?
Demeter - grieving for Persephone - the arm
What do the gods do?
put Pelops back together and make an ivory arm for him since Demeter eat one of his arms
What his Tantalus punishment?
eternal condemnation to the Underworld
How does Tantalus live?
- food and water always just out of reach
- can't satisfy hunger and thirst
What does the oracle tell Denomaus?
to beware of death at hands of son-in-law
How can suitors win Hippodamid? What happens if you lose?
must win a chariot race - put to death if you lose
Why will Oenomdus never lose?
bc his horses are just too fast
Who does Pelops find to help him? What does he do?
finds Myrtilus to help him - Pelops offers half the kingdom if he installs wax wheel-pins on Oenomdus chariot
What happenes after the race?
Pelops throws Myrtilus into the sea and as falling Myrtilus cures Pelops before he dies
