Lecture 10 Flashcards
(12 cards)
7 dimensions of ABA
Generality - results are durable and long lasting
Effective - techniques result in socially significantly change
Technological - procedures are clear and replicable
Analytic - prove relationships between behaviour and environment
Conceptually systematic - relate procedures to behavioural principles
Applied - make a difference of social importance
Behaviour - focus on observable and measurable behaviour
4 term contingency
Motivating operations - temporarily make a consequence more reinforcing, make it more likely a person will do something to achieve that consequence
Antecedent (SD)
Behaviour
Consequence
Consequences
Reinforcement - consueqnce that increases the frequency of the behaviour it followed, in future
Punishment - consequence that decreases the frequency of behaviour it followed, in future
Extinction - a reinforcement contingency is previously learned but now the reinforcing consequence is no longer provided. See an increase in behaviour before they decrease
RFT
Explains cog and learning
Explains covert internal behaviours
Explains how we derive, infer, comprehend, learn things that aren’t directly taught
Deriving relations step by step
Taught directly that that is a tilt table -Taught expressive label/ Tact
Indirectly learn the other way = mutual entailment/bidirectional naming symmetry/ receptive, listener skill

Diff between consent and assent
Consent may only be given by individuals who have reached the legal age of consent
Assent is the agreement of someone not able to give legal consent to participate in an activity
Ways to show assent
Approach
- reaches, gestures, leads
-points
-signs
-vocalises, signs or choices using pictures what he wants
- takes items to you
Ways to show assent withdrawal
Push items and activities away
Move away
Sign ‘shush’
Request something else
Sign ‘go’
Self advocacy skills he is building to show assent and assent withdrawal
To say ‘me’ to gain attention and interaction
To sign for exact needs and wants
To vocalise gesture and lead
Make choices using pictures
Build his own schedule of activities
Use a range of responses if not understood
Sign ‘break’ or ‘finish’

Principle of the UK-SBA code of ethical and professional conduct
Prioritise positive and proactive strategies
Our society is set up to punish (decrease) inappropriate behaviours rather than reinforce (increase) appropriate behaviours
Should be about upscaling and improving skills
Doesn’t condone use of procedures that are harmful degrading painful or dehumanising
Have to try everything else before using punishment
