Meridonal flow
Jet streams occur in the late fall nd winter, warm air pulses
Frazil Ice
First to from. Small shards of pure ice that from once the water goes below freezing point.
-Floats and accumulates on the surface.
Pancake Ice
formed by either an amalgamation or round edged ice chunks up to 3 meters in diameter, or chucked of congealed slush.
Grease Ice
The ice has an oily clear sheen to it. Very thin, smooth layer of ice.
Nilas
A thin elastic crust of ice that is bedazzle and is able to move worth he waves. Nilas can be light or dark.
Sheet Ice
thickened accumulations of sea ice that begin to take over a large contiguous area.
Polynia
An open water surrounded by sea ice. Kept open through warmer water upwellings.
First year sea ice
formed one year and during the summer it melts.
Multi-year sea ice
ormed though accumulations over a number of years, and more is usually added than melts in a summer
Fast Ice
Ice that is frozen fast to the bed or shore region. Fast ice does not move
Drift Ice
Ice that drifts with the wind and ocean currents
Ice Fields
A single unit of ice that is larger than 10km across
