(4 cards)

1
Q

Define the term Viscosity.

A

Viscosity is the thickness or thinness of a fluid. it is known as the resistance to flow

Q

Using the Particle Theory of Matter, explain how temperature affects the viscosity of a liquid fluid.

A

Tempature affects the speed at which particles move, means the wamer the particles get, the faster they will move, and the cooler the particles get the slower they will move. So if the substance is heated the particles will begin to move faster and further apart causing the viscosity to decrease and vice versa.

Q

Thinking back to our lab experiment, explain how the viscosity and flow rate of a substance affects the speed at which that substance travels?

A

In our lab expriement the substance with the highest viscosity was BBQ sauce,it took the longest to travel from one point to another, this means it also had the lowest flow rate out of the substances we tested. This is due to the fact that the particles are packed very closely together which causes a high viscosity and low flow rate.

Q

Explain Internal Friction, and provide an example.

A

Intenal friction is when particles struggle to pass each other .
Example skating on ice vs cement
