Lesson 4- Density Flashcards
(3 cards)
Define the term Density and explain how it is affected by the viscosity of a fluid
Density is the amount of mass contained in a given volume. If a fluid has a higher Viscosity, the density is impacted because the particles are packed closely together causing the substance to have a higher density.
When will a substance sink in a fluid? When will a substance float in a fluid? When will a substance “hover” in place in a fluid?
• If the density of a substance is less than the density of a fluid it will float.
• If the density of a substance is exactly the same as the density of the fluid it will “hover” in place.
• If the density of a sunstance is greater than the density of a fluid it will sink.
What is the formula for Density, and list the units used for measuring the density of a liquid, and the density of a solid?
d=m/v
In liquids density is measured in g/mL
In solids it is measured in g/cm3
