Lesson 5- Buoyancy Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
Define Buoyancy
A
Buoyancy is the tendenay of an object in a fluid to float or sink due to density differences with its surroundings.
2
Q
Explain how gravity affects Buoyancy?
A
The force of gravity pulls objects down and the buoyant force pushes objects up.
3
Q
When will an object rise in a fluid? When will an object sink in a fluid? When will an object float in place in a fluid?
A
An object will float in a fluid when the buoyant force on the object is greater than the force of gravity.
An object will sink, in a fluid when the buoyant force on the object is less than the force of gravity
An object will float in a fluid when the buoyant force on the object is equal to the force of gravity
