Releases thyroid stimulating hormone
Role is to regulat all other glands

Produces the hormone insulin

Releases hormone adrenaline

Releases hromone thyroxine

What is the biological cause of Type 1 diabetes?
Autoimmune condition where the body attacks and destroys insulin producing cells in the pancreas meaning no insulin is produced
Who are people most likely diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes?
Most often found in under 40s
Most commonly found in childhood
Symtpoms of Type 1 diabetes
Blurred vision
Thirsty
Fatigue
Weight loss
What is the biological cause of Type 2 diabetes?
The body becomes resistant to insulin leading to the body not producing nough insulin causing high blood sugars
What are the risk factors of Type 2 diabetes?
Over 50 in the white population
Obesity
Lack of exercise
Symtpoms of Type 2 diabetes
Same as type 1
Some don’t have symptoms
Treatments of diabtetes
Insulin injections
Insulin pump
Weight loss surgery (Type 2)
Ozempic (Type 2): used with diet and exercise to to control Type 2, lowers blood sugar levels and helps with weight loss
Evaluation of Insulin injections
Positive: reduces glucose levels, quick and easy can be self administered
Negative: Painful, fear of needles
Evaluation of insulin pump
Positive: replaces insulin levels, more flexibility with routines
Negatives: risk of pump malfunction, impact of physical activity/ sports
Evaluation of weight loss surgery
Positives: prevents obesity, can put diabetes into remission
Negatives: post surgery infections, painful/ long recovery
Evaluation of Ozempic
Positives: lowers blood glucose levels, may help weight loss
Negatives: may need to be taken long term, need to remember to take them
