1

LVO Applies to:  Take Off operations in less than XXX m RVR  Landing in less than YYY m RVR

 Take Off operations in less than 400m RVR  Landing in less than 550m RVR

2

LVO requires what 2 conditions to be in place to partake...

 The status of visual/non-visual facilities are sufficient  Appropriate LVPs are in place ie: o “Low visibility procedures in force or CAT 3 approaches in use etc.” or if in the USA: o NB: LVPs are implicit if ceiling 800ft and/or 2sm vis (OMC 8.7.3.3 - ILS critical area protection)

3

A conversion of meteorological visibility to RVR (CMV) is not to be used when:

When reported RVR is available; or For calculating any takeoff minima; or to establish any required approach and landing RVR minimum less than 800 metres

4

Restrictions on LVO and PEDs

All PEDs apart from controlled items must be switched off for all Low Visibility Operations Flight crew must make a PA before a Takeoff or Landing in LVOs advising passengers of this requirement. This may be delegated to the SCCM

5

Take-off is not permitted if any of the following are below minima:

 RVR assessed by the Commander when lined up  TDZ RVR or Met visibility  Mid-point RVR when reported  Stop-end if any RVR is below 200m  Cloud ceiling if specified in the AOM  Runway is indistinguishable from its surroundings

6

for T/O How many lights at 15m spacing must be seen at: 1) 75m RVR 2) 150m RVR

o 75m RVR with 15m spacing = 4 o 150 m RVR with 15m Spacing=9

7

Commencement and Continuation of Approach

RVR Required: o TDZ (as per Lido minima) If reported and relevant (if used at ≈ 60kts) o Midpoint ≥125m or TDZ minima if less o Stopend ≥ 75m

8

What is the meaning of this: “ACFT MAX 65/7”

o First figure is wingspan o Second figure is vertical distance between GP antenna and landing gear. All BA apart from the A380 are OK to use these minima.

9

Landing clearance must be obtained by XXX if there is no visual reference

200’RA

10

Approach Preparation Check 3 things:

 Aircraft status  Crew qualification  Airport capability

11

AFDS Status Annunciation  Land 3 = XXX  LAND 2 = YYY  NO AUTOLAND = ZZZ

 Land 3 = CAT 3B  LAND 2 = CAT 3A (or Cat 2)  NO AUTOLAND = CAT 1

12

If ASA degrades above alert height (200’RA):

 If workload permits recalculate minima.  DH must be set when reverting to CAT 3A as aural alerting is compulsory

13

On initial contact with Approach Control in LVPs:

“Request CAT 2/3”

14

Above Alert Height  AUTOPILOT DISC/AUTOPILOT

Above Alert Height  AUTOPILOT DISC/AUTOPILOT = G/A

15

Above Alert Height  AUTOTHROTTLE DISC

Above Alert Height  AUTOTHROTTLE DISC o CAT 3A/CAT2 Approach = Continue o CAT 3B Approach = Revert to CAT3A/Cat 2 or G/A

16

Above Alert Height  SPEEDBRAKE EXTENDED

Above Alert Height  SPEEDBRAKE EXTENDED = Stow and Continue

17

Above Alert Height  NO AUTOLAND

Above Alert Height  NO AUTOLAND = G/A

18

Above Alert Height  NO LAND 3

Above Alert Height  NO LAND 3 = Revert if able NB: Ensure Cat 3A minima get set

19

Above Alert Height  ENGINE FAIL/THRUST L/R

Above Alert Height  ENGINE FAIL/THRUST L, R = Continue

20

Above Alert Height  ILS DEVIATION

Above Alert Height  ILS DEVIATION = G/A

21

Below Alert Height  AUTOPILOT DISC/AUTOPILOT

Below Alert Height  AUTOPILOT DISC/AUTOPILOT = G/A

22

Below Alert Height  AUTOTHROTTLE DISC

Below Alert Height  AUTOTHROTTLE DISC = G/A

23

Below Alert Height  SPEEDBRAKE EXTENDED

Below Alert Height  SPEEDBRAKE EXTENDED = G/A

24

Below Alert Height  NO AUTOLAND

Below Alert Height  NO AUTOLAND = G/A

25

Below Alert Height  NO LAND 3

Below Alert Height  NO LAND 3 = N/A Inhibited

26

Below Alert Height  ENGINE FAIL/THRUST L, R

Below Alert Height  ENGINE FAIL/THRUST L, R = Continue

27

Below Alert Height  ILS DEVIATION

Below Alert Height ILS DEVIATION = G/A

28

Visual Reference Required  NPA, RNAV, CAT 1

Visual Reference Required  NPA, RNAV, CAT 1 o Elements of approach lights o Threshold/Markings/Lights o VGSI o Touchdown Zone/Markings/Lights o Runway Edge Lights

29
