The eligibility criteria for an AML
Who are certifying staff?
Personnel licensed (CAT A,B, C, or L) to certify maintenance tasks depending on the task.
Who are Support Staff?
Licensed personnel who verify or perform maintenance during base maintenance activities
What are the Category A licence subcategories?
- A1: Aeroplanes Turbine
- A2: Aeroplanes Piston
- A3: Helicopters Turbine
- A4: Helicopters Piston
What does a Category B1 license cover?
Aircraft structure, powerplant, mechanical and electrical systems.
What are the Category B1 subcategories?
- B1.1 (Aeroplanes Turbine)
- B1.2 (Aeroplanes Piston)
- B1.3 (Helicopter Turbine)
- B1.4 (Helicopter Piston)
What does a Category B2 cover?
All aircraft; avionics and electrical systems.
What does a B2L licence cover?
All aircraft except Group 1; includes systems ratings like COM/NAV systems, instruments, autoflight, etc.
What does a Category B3 apply to?
Piston engine, non-pressurised aircraft <2000kg.
What does Category L include?
Subcategories like sailplanes, composite sailplanes, hot-air balloons etc.
What is Category C for?
Base maintenance on aeroplanes and helicopters. It covers the entire aircraft.
What is a Group 1 aircraft?
CMPA, multi-engine helicopters, aircraft above FL290, fly-by-wire, gas airships (except ELA2), others as defined by CAA.
What defines a Group 2 aircraft?
Simpler aircraft like single-engine planes, certain jets/turboprops as classified by the CAA.
What define a Complex Motor-powered Aircraft (CMPA) aeroplane?
MTOM >5700kg, 19+ pax seats, 2 pilot crew, turbojet or multi-engine turboprop.
What defines a Complex Motor-powered Aircraft (CMPA) helicopters?
MTOM >3175kg, 9+ pax seats, 2 pilot crew, or tilt-rotor.
What are the privileges of a Category A licence holder?
CRS for minor line maintenance or defect rectification performed personally.
What can a Category B1 licence holder certify?
Aircraft structure, powerplant, mechanical and electrical systems. Limited avionics (simple tests only).
What can a Category B2 licence holder certify?
Avionics and electrical systems, plus some engine,mechanical electrical tasks with simple tests.
What can a Category C licence holder certify?
The entire aircraft after base maintenance.
What are the conditions to use licence privileges?
- Compliance with Part-M, Part-145, Part-ML, CAO.
- 6 Months experience in the past 2 years
- Adequate competence
- Language proficiency in documentation language
How is knowledge demonstrated?
Through exams from a Part-147 organisation or the CAA
What is the experience requirement for a B1.1, B1.3, or B2 without formal training?
5 years experience
How can the experience needed for a licence be reduced?
By completing a Part-147 approved training course (e.g., reduced to 2 years for B1.1/B2).
How long is an license valid for without renewal?
5 years
