What happens if their is no progesterone?
No pregnancy
What does a follicle secrete after growth to thicken the endometrium?
Oestrogen
How does ovulation occur?
FSH causes follicle growth. The large follicle secretes lots of oestrogen causing the LH surge and ovulation.
The corpus luteum released the egg and secretes progesterone to maintain the endometrium.
What happens after the corpus luteum released the egg and secretes progesterone to maintain the endometrium if no pregnancy?
Corpus luteum degrades and progesterone drops causing menstrual cycle and endometrium shedding
What happens after the corpus luteum released the egg and secretes progesterone to maintain the endometrium when their is a pregnancy?
During pregnancy HCG maintains the endometrium
What is a threatened pregnancy?
Bleeding but no miscarriage = something we can do
What is a recurrant miscarriage?
More than one miscarriage and we don’t know what causes it, there is normally nothing we can do
What was the progesterone study?
Giving progesterone to women with 3+ miscarriages who have a threatened pregnancy increases the odds of live birth, however, less than 3 miscarriages did not lead to increased odds.
