Spermatogonial Stem Cells Flashcards
(11 cards)
What are spermatogonial stem cells?
Adult stem cells within the male reproductive system responsible for maintaining continuous spermatogenesis, the process of producing sperm
What is hard about isolating SSC?
There is low numbers of these in the testes
What is in the culture to help SSC’s grow?
GDNF
Do SSC’s complete spermatogenesis after being transplanted into the testis of immunodeficient mice?
Yes
Human spermatogonia
A dark to Apale
Mouse spermatogonia?
Asingle - Apair - Aal - differentaited sperm
Human foetal testis as a model for prepubertal germ cell development study
Testis were given chemotherapy and the testes cells decreases
What was the cisplatin and the testes study?
Decreased germ cell numbers
Decreased long term germ cell reduction after xenograft
Decreased spermatogonia and SSC number in human prepubertal testes
Describe the Rhesus monkey study by Hermann et al., 2012?
Made monkeys infertile through chemotherapy and transferred SSCs. They then injected any sperm made into oocytes via ICSI.
Birth of a live offspring from transplantation of prepubertal monkey testes study?
Took cryopreserved testes tissue from a monkey and grafted it to the back or scrotal skin of castrated monkeys. These then produced sperm and graft derived sperm where used to make Grady the monkey.
