Atypical depression

A

Differs from classic form of depression:

1) mood reactivity (being able to experience improved mood in response to positive events)
2) “reversed” vegetative symptoms (hypersomnia and weight gain)
3) leaden paralysis (heavy feeling and arms/legs)
4) long standing interpersonal rejection sensitivity

Most common subtype of depression

Tx: MAO inhibitor, SSRI.
