Causes
Cause morbillivirus of the paramyxovirus
Transmission through droplet and direct contact
Incubation for 10 days
Symptoms
Stage 1- prodromal phase (10-12 days after contracting virus and 3-4 days before rash) cold like symptoms and conjunctivitis
Stage 2: two days after prodromal phase: appearance of koplik spots on inner cheek and gums
Stage 3: erythematous and maculopapular rash starts on the face and behind the ears the spreads descending down the body to the trunk and limbs. Spots are small, red and may merge together, forming blotchy patches but do not blanch with pressure. Rash fades in more than 5 days on any area. Total duration of rash 1 week
Self care
Stay away from school/work for at least 4 dats, fluid intake,cotton wool soaked in warm water, don’t itch and keep nails short
Treatment
Paracetamol,ibuprofen,antihistamines if rash itchy
