Medial aspect cerebral hemisphere Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is the medial aspect (inner view) of the brain highlight?
They highlight important areas involved in emotion, memory and behaviour
What is the Uncus?
Means “hook” and is part of the brain involved in the sense of smell.
What is Cingulum?
Latin for “girdle” or “belt.” It refers to the cingulate gyrus, a part of the brain that is important for emotional processing and behavior.
What is the prefrontal area?
Located in the front (shown in red), involved in controlling emotions (like pain, pleasure, anger) and planning behavior.
What is the limbic lobe/cortex?
-Includes the cingulate gyrus and parahippocampal gyrus.
-This area is key for emotions and behavior.
- The hippocampus (shaped like a seahorse, as shown in the small image) is part of the parahippocampal gyrus and is essential for memory.
What are the important grooves?
- Central Sulcus: Separates motor and sensory areas.
- Parietooccipital Fissure: Separates the parietal and occipital lobes.
- Calcarine Fissure: Important for vision processing.
What is the corpus collosum?
The corpus callosum is a thick bundle of nerve fibers that connects the left and right hemispheres (sides) of the brain. It acts like a bridge, allowing the two sides of the brain to communicate and share information.
