Q

What are the types of sensory information?

A
  1. Fine Touch, Proprioception, and Vibration: This pathway detects light touch, body position, and vibrations.
  2. Pain, Temperature, and Coarse Touch: This pathway detects sensations like pain, heat/cold, and rough touch.

Q

What is the pathways through the spinal cord and brain?

A

Step 1: Sensory information starts in the body (like in the skin or muscles) and travels through sensory nerves to the spinal cord.
Step 2: The signals move up the spinal cord, and they often cross to the opposite side in the spinal cord or in the medulla (part of the brainstem).
Step 3: The signals go through the medulla and into the thalamus (a relay station in the brain), which organizes and directs sensory information to the correct area in the brain.
Step 4: The thalamus sends the information to the primary somatic sensory cortex in the brain, where you become aware of sensations like touch, temperature, or pain.

Q

Why does this pathway matters?

A

These pathways allow the brain to process and respond to sensory information from all over the body, which is essential for feeling sensations and coordinating responses.
