When is the recovery phase in gait?

A

The recovery phase starts when the foot is lifted from the ground and before it hits the ground.

When is the drive phase in the gait?

A

The drive phase starts when the leg is slightly behind the runner’s hips and continues until right before the foot leaves the ground.

When is the support/stance phase in the gait?

A

The support (stance phase) starts when the foot hits the ground until the leg is directly underneath the hips.

When is the support/stance phase either eliminated or substantially minimized?

A

With a correct midfoot strike, the support phase is eliminated or substantially minimized as the foot hits the ground under or just in front of the hips, thus beginning the drive phase.
