Multitraumatized Patient Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is trauma
Injury to living tissue caused by extrinsic agent
Type of trauma.
Blunt trauma
Penetrating
Thermal
Chemical
Ionizing
Nuclear
What is multi-trauma or polytrauma
Two or more severe injuries in at least two body areas
Causes of death within 1 hour of trauma
Massive hemorrhage / crush injuries
Massive CNS trauma
Airway obstruction
Cause of death 1-4h after trauma
Hemorrhage effect
Hypoxia
Causes of late death after trauma
Sepsis
Multiple organ failure
Management of trauma
ATLS protocol- ABC
Airway and c spine - concept
Maintain c spine
Look for airway obstruction
Maintain airway patent ->oral airway, nasal airway, et tube, cricothyroidotomy, tracheotomy
Breathing -concept
Inspection of chest
RR measurement
Tracheal deviation
Palpation
Percussion
Auscultation
Pulse oximetry
High flow oxygen 6-8L non rebreather mask or ambulance bag, or et tube after RSI with cricoid pressure
Circulation concept
Identify shock (tachycardia, low CRT and hypothermia, increasedRR). and causes (hemorrhage, compressive, cardiogenic, neurogenic, sepsis)
