NAV & COMMS EXAM REVISION Flashcards
What V/UHF antennas do we have, what are they shared by?
Two antenna, one each for the V/UHF #1 and #2 systems, shared by the #2 TACAN system
WARNING associated with SATCOM antenna
All personnel should be a minimum of 20ft from the SATCOM antenna when performing radio checks. Serious RF burns can result from contact with the antenna whilst transmitting.
What three ways can the ARC210 zeroise function be initiated?
- Press the guarded zeroize switch on Misc switch panel located on fwd pedestal
- Use discrete selection on zeroize page of MCDU
- Select the guarded V/UHF zeroize switch at the Nav station
What frequency band does HAVE QUICK use?
UHF frq band
What frequency band does SINCGARS use?
VHF frq band
- What VDR selections can be made
- What frq needs to be set to enable CPDLC?
- What is the caveat?
Data & Voice
A “data” frq
Both VDRs can’t be selected to data at the same time
What VHF spacing is available for VDF?
25 & 8.33kHz
When HF system is turned on, how long is needed until it can be used?
When the RT is powered on through the FMS and requires a three minute initialisation process before it can be used
Tuning HF error you can get/What must occur once a SELCAL has been received to change radio frqs?
ABORT SEND must be selected iot change frequencies
WARNING associated with the HF BIT (2 parts & 3 condxns)
- Do not transmit or perform BIT when a/c is on the ground and personnel are working on external skin SFC. (High voltage can build up)
- Ground transmit operation of the HF radio system, including BIT is prohibited unless the a/c is 200ft or more from the following;
1. Aviation fuel storage areas
2. A/c with open fuel lines/system
3. ground refuelling of a/c
What are the 8 navigation modes/solutions that the FMF or user can select? In what order does the system select the nav solution?
- Blended INU/GPS mode (1 & 2)
- INU - only mode (1 & 2)
- GPS-only mode (1 & 2)
- INU/RADIO mode (1 & 2)
The FMF should go down the list as a hierarchy, taking into account the EHE for each system (lowest EHE the better)
Blended INU/GPS nav mode; without GPS what drift occurs?
Without GPS, drifts at max 0.3nm/hr
INU - only nav mode; what drift occurs?
Drifts at max 0.8nm/hr
What occurs if “automatic Nav mode selection” is chosen?
The FMF will select the nav mode automatically, based on sensor availability and the estimated quality (lowest EHE) of the modes navigation solution
How many satellites are required for operation?
only FOUR satellites required for RAIM - WITH BARO-AIDING
INU/RADIO nav mode; what drift occurs?
Drifts at max 0.8nm/hr
When can the EGI IBIT be done
can only be commanded in standby or Orient mode
What are the steps required to perform a stored HDG alignment (4)
- “Fast inertial alignment mode” selected on MCDU
- INU must reach NAV READY before power down & INHIBIT must be selected
- Do not move the aircraft
- Must select SH in mode select of INU control page
What are the minimum requirements for in flight alignment?
- GPS FOM of 4 or less
- a/c is in motion or airborne
- GPS is available & valid
to use the FLIGHT PLAN RAIM PAGE, what criteria must be met to achieve predictive RAIM? (5)
- GPS receiver is operational
- Route is active
- Performance has been initialised
- a/c is not airbourne
- Predictive RAIM is not being computed
UNABLE RNP warning -
- when?
- what does it look like?
Will be raised when ANP is equal to or greater than 2 times RNP
SFD line 5: AMBER text
EXCEED RNP warning -
- when?
- what does it look like?
Will be raised when TSE is equal to or greater than RNP. E.g. RNP 1, EXCEED RNP will come up when XTK >1nm
INTG & MCDU message: AMBER text
Default RNP values?
- ENR: RNP 4
- TERM: RNP 1
- APPCH: RNP 0.3
How does the ADF display bearing info (2)
- Bearing pointers
- Radio Tune page
