Academies and Free schools
- receive funding directly from central government through the education funding agency and run by a charitable trust
What does MAT stand for ?
Multi Academy Trust
Do Academies follow the national curriculum?
No they do not they have more freedom in what they teach although they must still carry out assessments
What is the difference between academies and free schools ?
Free schools are newly formed schools but academies have converted from being state schools Which were maintained by the local authority
Benefits of becoming an academy school
1) more freedom in terms of curriculum
2) set their own times and dates
3) determine how they spend their budgets
What is a private school ?
Known as independent schools and receive no government funding and are paid for by fees. They may also have a charitable status in exchange for offering some free scholarship places
Do private schools follow the national curriculum?
No they do not have to
Why do we have private schools ?
They benefit students by fostering academic excellence and high achievement
How are private schools different?
1) don’t receive government funding
2) funded through tuition
3) tuition fees or scholarships are offered on the intelligence of the pupil
Do people do better in private schools?
They have access to more diverse facilities than it is possible for the state sector to provide for example high quality sports facilities
