What does regulation mean ?
A set of rules or laws to control and protect the way in which something is done
Why is regulation necessary?
To ensure consistency and maintain standards in the way in which education is delivered
What does DfE stand for ?
Department for education
What is the department for education (DfE) ?
The government department that is responsible for children’s services and education in particular teaching and learning
What does the department for education produce?
Key publications including statutory guidance to support legislation
What does Ofsted stand for ?
Office for standards in education, children’s services and skills
What is Ofsted ?
The regulator and inspector of safeguarding, education and skills settings for learners of all ages from babies upwards

What does Ofqual stand for ?
Office of qualifications and examinations regulation
What is Ofqual ?
The regulator of qualifications, assessments and examinations in England. All new qualifications must be checked and approved by Ofqual to ensure that they meet an appropriate standard
What qualifications do Ofqual regulate ?
GCSEs, A levels, vocational and technical qualifications.
Responsible for making sure people have confidence in their qualifications, it is reliable, and indicate what knowledge, skills and understanding the student has demonstrated

Non-departmental public body of the department for education.
It is a regulator for higher education in England
