How can a prerenal AKI be distinguished from an acute tubular necrosis?

Urinary sodium

Prerenal AKI - leads to poor perfusion and therefore the kidney want to hang on to urianary sodium to preserve circulatory volume.

ATN - Ischaemic kidneys have damaged epitherlia and therefore sodium cannot be reabsorbed
