Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)

Arm and leg on face side are extended. Arm and leg on scalp side are flexed. Spine curved with convexity towards face side

Birth to 6 months


Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR)

When head is in flexion, arms are flexed and legs are extended. When head is in extension, arms are extended and legs are flexed.

6 to 8 months


Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR)

In the supine position, body and extremities are held in extension. In the prone position, body and extremities are held in flexion

Birth to 6 months


Galant Reflex

Lateral Flexion of Trunk to side of stimulus.

30 weeks gestation to 2 months


Palmar Grasp Reflex

Flexion of fingers causing strong grip.

Birth to 4 months


Plantar Grasp Reflex

Toe flexion

28 weeks gestation to 9 months


Rooting Reflex

Touch on cheek; turning head to same side with mouth open

28 weeks gestation to 3 months


Moro Reflex

When head drops into extension suddenly for a few inches: arms abduct with fingers open, then cross trunk into adduction, and cry.

28 weeks gestation to 5 month (4 months in O’Sullivan)


Startle Reflex

Similar to Moro response, but elbows remain flexed and hands closed

28 weeks gestation to 5 months


Positive Support Reflex

Stiffening of legs and trunk into extension when weight placed on balls of feet when upright

35 weeks gestation to 2 months


Walking (Stepping) Reflex

Reciprocal flexion and extension of legs when in supported upright position with soles of feet on firm surface.

38 weeks gestation to 2 months
