Pelvic Limb Flashcards
Block 2 (18 cards)
Joints of pelvic limb
sacroiliac, coxofemoral, stifle, tarsus, metatarsophalangeal, Proximal and distal interphalangeal
Parts of the pelvis
Sacroiliac joint, ilium, ischium, pubis, sacrum
Coxofemoral Joint
made of up head of fetus and acetabulum, has a fibrous outer layer and synovial inner membrane, has ligament of the head of the femur
acetabulum
the socket where all 3 parts of the pelvis meet
what is the primary movements of the coxofemeral joint
flexion and extension ; also allows abduction, adduction, and circumduction
what makes up the quadriceps femurs muscle
4 heads
Stifle joint is a
complex condylar synovial joint
Stifle joint
had limited flexion and extension, has several ligaments, made up of 3 joints : femorotibial, femoropatellar, proximal tibiofibular
where are the medial and lateral menisci
between the condyles of the femus and condyles of the tibia
Patellar ligament
ligament between the patella and tibial tuberosity
Collateral ligaments of the stifle
lateral collateral and medial collateral ligaments, are extra-articular, they help stabilize the stifle
Lateral collateral ligament
courses from femur to tibia and fibia, limits medial motion of tibia
medial collateral ligament
courses from femur to tibia, limits lateral motion form tibia
Cruciate ligaments
are intra-articular, named after where they attach
Cranial cruciate ligament
attached to tibia cranially, prevents crainal tibia movement
Caudal cruciate ligament
attached to tibia caudally, prevents caudal tibia movement
Intra-articular
inside the joint
Extra-articular
outside (on the side) of the joint
