What is Collective Unconscious?
consist of innate, inherited and universal instincts that go beyond personal experience
humans born with certain fears and instincts and these are stored here
What are Archetypes?
universal themes or symbols within collective unconscious
influences current experience

- the persona (mask adopted to deal with people)
- the shadow (repressed material)
- the anima (feminine element in male psyche)
- the animus (masculine element in female psyche)

What is the principle of equivalence?
as activity increases in one part of the psyche, it decreases in another part

the drive to create balanced energies in the psyche
so we express more of ourselves in our behaviour
