Flashcards in Philosophy of Science (Tim Byron) Deck (5)
What is the point of theories under Positivism?
explain relationships in data. Theories aren't true but next way to explain= no causality
Who introduced problem of induction? what are the two solutions?
Hume: we can't justify world we've experienced represents everything
1. Inductivism (positivism)
2. Deductivism- hume was right- but we can know which are false
In reality scientists ignore falsifications. Science is a paradigm shift
Who were deductivists?
Popper, Kuhn, Lakatos, Feyerabend
