Activity after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Limit physical activity for the next few days
Rinsing after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Do not rinse your mouth for 24 hours
Bleeding after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Slight bleeding is normal within few hours, if bleeding continues dental gauze can be applied for 20 mins, if bleeding does not stop, call the office immediately
Discomfort after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Some discomfort is expected, if medications were prescribed follow them as needed. If pain gets worse, call the office
Eating after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Stay with a soft food diet after surgery, avoid eating on the surgical side, do not drink hot beverages on the 1st day, wait for the anesthetic to ear off, avoid spicy and seasoned food as this may irate the area
Sutures after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
If non-absorbable sutures were placed, they will need to be removed within 5-7 days. Indicate number of sutures placed. Be very gentle during brushing and do not dislodge any sutures
Periodontal Dressing after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
If applied, dressing was placed to protect surgical site, it will fully set within 2 hours, it is normal for the small parts to come off. If the dressing comes off or large piece breaks off, call the office immediately to have it replaced. Dressing can be brushed gently using soft toothbrush.
Swelling after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Is expected for the area to have swelling, ice packs can be applied for 15 mins for the next 4 hours. If swelling extends to your neck or chin, call the office immediately
Smoking after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
Do not smoke during the healing process as this may produce poor results
Home care after Gingivectomy & Gingivoplasty
If peridontal dressing is not present, area can be brushed gently using soft toothbrush, rinse and mouthwash or warm salt water can be used the next day
