Prokaryotic DNA replication Flashcards
(8 cards)
In prokaryotic replication DNA is replicated…
prior to the mitosis phase of the cell cycle in the S phase:
equal DNA is passed to each daughter cell unlike viruses.
How is DNA replicated?
Semi-conservatively meaning each strand is used as a template and each daughter DNA has an original strand.
What are the 4 stages?
Initiation
Unwinding
Elongation
Termination
What happens in initiation?
1) the process begins when an initiation protein know as DnaA bind to the locus oriC - a promoter region to being DNA transcription
2) Then a single stranded bonding protein Ssb hold the DNA bubble open
3) This is allows DnaB, which is a helicase, to use ATP to separate double stranded DNA
What happens in Unwinding?
(After DNA helices unwinds the double strand and opens up template strand)
1) Supercoiling is prevented by DN gyrase - relaxes tension that increased during unwinding so DNA breakage doesn’t occur
What happens in Elongation?
What happens in Termination?
What is the common organism prokaryotic replication is seen in?
Ecoli
