A PRIORI

- doesnt require sense experience to know it to be true; you can figure out whether the proposition is true just by thinking about it

- can only be established through sense experience

- a proposition that is true/false just in virtue of the meanings of the words

SYNTHETIC PROPOSITIONS

- a proposition that is true/false not just in virute of the meanings of the words but in virtue of the way the world is

- a proposition that is possible to be true/false

- a proposition that must be true (or necessarily false if it must be false)

- we are born w/ ideas/knowledge (it is innate)
