What is recruitment?
The process of attracting and identifying potential job candidates who are suitable for a particular role. Recruitment activities include job advertising, job fairs, social media outreach and referrals from current employees. Goal of recruitment is to create a pool of qualified candidates who can be considered for the role

What is selection?
The process of choosing the best candidate. Activities often require reviewing CV’s and conducting interviews or assessment tasks. Goal of selection is to hire the most suitable candidate for the job.

What does the recruitment and selection process involve? ( 5 Steps)
- Define role- Determine what is required + develop job description/ specification
- Determine best source of candidates- Internally/ externally or both advertise role
- Advertise- Use most- Effective methods to reach potential candidates e.g. LinkedIn
- Receive Application- Collect information from potential candidates. Applicants may have to submit CV or application form. Someone in the business will look through applications and draw up a shortlist who will be interviewed.
- Selection Process- Businesses must decide on most appropriate method which will help them identify best candidate.
What are the two examples of methods of selection?
- Interviews- Meeting and asking questions about skills, experience and knowledge. Set of relevant questions asked to all candidates.
- Assessment tasks- Shortlisted candidates have opportunity to demonstrate their skills and suitability for the job. May include group exercises, presentations etc..
What is Internal Recruitment?
Filling a vacancy with a member of your existing Workforce within the organisation.

Filling a Vacancy with someone from outside the business/ organisation.

What are Job Vacancies?
Can open up when any staff member leaves or a new responsibilities is required by the business. First we need to decide whether the job vacancy needs filing then we need to appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
What are recruitment, selection and training costs?
Recruitment Costs- Expenses incurred in the process of hiring new employees.
Selection Costs- Expenses incurred in process of selecting candidates
Training Costs- Expenses incurred in the process of training new or existing employees
High labour turnover rates can increase all these costs. So by reducing labour turnover rates a business can minimise costs and improve overall profitability and competitivness.

Receive Training While you carry out the Job. Allows employees to learn new skills and knowledge from colleagues while performing their job duties.

Type of training that new employees receive when they start working for a company. It introduces them to the company, its culture, policies, procedures, and their job roles and responsibilities

-Introduces to company policies, culture + procedures
-Improves employee confidence
