respones in plants Flashcards
(7 cards)
how do plants increase their chances of survival by responding to changes in their environment?
they sense the direction of light and grow towards it to maximise light absorption for photosynthesis
they can sense gravity, so their roots and shoots grow in the right direction
how do plants respond to the presence of predators?
white clover is a plant that can produce substances that are toxic to cattle. Cattle start to eat lots of white clover when fields are overgrazed - the white clover responds by producing toxins, to avoid being eaten.
How does the production of antifreeze proteins in carrots demonstrate a plant’s response to its environment?
carrots produce antifreeze proteins at low temperatures - the proteins bind to ice crystals and lower the temperature at which water freezes, stopping more water crystals from growing.
describe shoots that are positively phototropic?
describe shoots that are negatively geotropic?
describe roots that are positively Geotropic?
describe roots that are negatively phototropic?
