Q

How are flowers adapted for insect pollination?

A

bright petals to attract insects
scented flowers and nectar to attract insects
they make big sticky pollen grains (stick to insects)
stigma is sticky, so any pollen picked up will stick to the stigma

Q

how are plants adapted for wind pollination?

A

no bright petals or nectar

lots of small and light pollen grains so they can easily be carried by the wind

large and feathery stigma to catch pollen as it’s carried past by the wind. the stigma often hangs outside the flower too.

Q

name 3 differences of Sexual and Asexual reproduction?

A
  1. Number of Parents
    • Asexual: Only one parent is needed
    • Sexual: Requires two parents
      2. Genetic Variation
    • Asexual: Offspring are genetically identical to the parent (clones)
    • Sexual: Offspring show genetic variation
      3. Gametes Involved
    • Asexual: No gametes (sperm or egg) are involved
    • Sexual: Involves the fusion of male and female gametes
