Why are reviews important?
Reviews offer the opportunity to gather information to provide an assessment on the status of a project and the ongoing viability.
What are the benefits of decision gates?
- Gain agreement from project sponsor/board for project continuation
- Ensures project is on track
- Release of funds
What are the benefits of a benefit review?
- Occurs during benefits realisation
- Ascertains if project has achieved its benefits - and if not why not
- Opportunity to improve project outcome
What are the benefits of audits?
- Independent compliance assessment
- Increases stakeholder confidence
- Ensures project is following agreed governance and processes
What are reporting factors?
- Progress against schedule
- Project spend (actual against planned)
- Earned value (tracking spend)
- Audit findings
- Risks and issues
Why should risks be reviewed?
To allow action and escalation as required
Why should time be reviewed?
Estimated time and cost should be reviewed to provide assurance to project sponsor that delivery is on track
Why should knowledge and information management be reviewed?
Projects should incorporate lessons learned from previous phases/projects. This may inform the best time to undertake certain activities e.g. quality checks
What are the potential causes of replanning?
- Achieving scope doesn’t meet requirements
- Motivation within the team is low
- Performance of suppliers is poor
- Costs exceed original forecast
- Change to risk profile
- Communication with stakeholders is ineffective
