After you've completed the sixth course, nail a full-length shingle in place to start the seventh course. 5. Measure and snap a chalkline across the top to made sure the row is straight. Snap a line every seven rows, so you can correct any errors before they get too serious.

1. Continue shingling well across the valley but avoid driving nails into the flashing below. 2. Line the valley with a row of shingles. Lay out the position by snapping a chalk line that runs from the top to the bottom of the valley positioned so it is about 2" above the low point of the valley. Lay a row of shingles up the valley with the bottom edge of the shingle on the chalkline. 3. Lay shingles for the adjoining roof starting at the valley. Position the first shingle of each row so its lower corner lines up with the lower edge of the shingles going up the valley.
