A

Look for a bridge, subway, level crossing or authorised walking routes

When crossing a line, should you cross at an angle?

A

Ensure you have visibility of approaching trains from both sides, do not cross af an angle make sure you cross as quickly as possible, looking both ways

A

Move to a position of safety immediately

What are the dangers of crossing a line?

A

Do not cross points, they can move and your foot be trapped
If you are crossing at depot, minimum of 10 metres away in case the train moves

If you get caught out on the railway, how should you try and protect yourself?

A

If you cannot reach a position of safety before a train passes, you must lie on the ground in the six foot, gather all loose clothing and stay in position until train has passed
Move to a position of safety after all trains have passed
Report near miss to signaller

What do you do if you come across the limited clearance signs & what do they mean?

A

Limited clearance - there is no position of safety on this side of the railway for the length of the structure. You must not enter or stand at that location when a train is approaching
No refuge - there is no position of safety on this side of the railway for the length of the structure however there may be positions of safety, or refuges, on the opposite side of the railway
Prohibition sign - you must not pass behind this sign while trains are running unless you are carrying out emergency protection
