scientific method Flashcards
(20 cards)
Scientific methods
a series of steps followed to solve problems
Hypothesis
an explanation that is based on prior scientific or observations and that can be tested
Controlled experiment
an experiment that test only one factor at a time by using a comparison of a control group with a experimental group
Variable
a factor that changes in an experiment in order to test a hypothesis
Control group
the group in an experiment or study that does not receive treatment by the researchers and is then used as a benchmark to measure how the other tested subjects do.
Experimental group
a group that receives a treatment in an experiment. The “group” is made up of test subjects (people, animals, plants, cells etc.) and the “treatment” is the variable you are studying.
Step 1 of scientific method
ask a question
Step 2 of scientific method
form a hypothesis
Step 3 of scientific method
test the hypothesis
Step 4 of scientific method
analyze the results
Step 5 of scientific method
draw a conclusion
Step 6 of scientific method
communicate results
