Sir Douglas Haig was important in the British Army’s strategies during WW1. However his strategies were not efficient.

A

This is because he wanted to gas the Germans , however his placement of the gas was said to have blown back on Scots, killing them. This showed ineffectiveness of his plans as it ended up killing his own military.

Haig had masterminded one forge biggest artillery attacks the world had ever seen, he planned to do a 7 day bombardment with over one and a half million shells fire.

This was significant because he planned out a plan which he thought would be successful however, it ended up making it extremely difficult for the Scots to cross no man’s land as the barb wire had moved as a result of the shells.

Haig was not a very popular leader, many referred to him as the ‘Butcher’ who seen soldiers lives as expendable.

A

This is because he willingly sent them over the top and o their slaughter at the Somme when it was evident the plans had failed. Due to his actions thousands of men died.

This was significant as it successfully took down the Germans and it was much more efferent than previous weapons used.
