Drager PBE operation:

A

1) Remove from stowage
2) Tear open foil bag using red pull strips
3) Remove protective visor
4) Hold neck seal open and place PBE over head from back to front
5) Ensure oral nasal assembly is over your nose and mouth
6) Ensure neck seal is correctly fitted with nothing trapped
7) Pull toggle to activate O2
8) Tie the tapes securely

1) Remove from stowage 2) Open by pushing green locking seal upwards 3) Pull red tear tab to open 4) Lift material off visor 5) Turn PBE upside down and place thumbs inside black collar, near the orange tabs (visor facing towards you) 6) Lift PBE over your shoulder and flick down to activate 7) Pull hood over head from back to front, pull down fully

1) Place thumbs in neck seal 2) Push over your chin - front to back

How can you prevent fire?
- Continuously complete GSCs - Don't leave PEDs connected to electrics for too long - Report any spillages or grease in ovens

What is the drill for the firefighter?
1) Use the back on hand to feel for heat 2) Attract the attention of a second CC to be the communicator and clearly state - 'I AM THE FIREFIGHTER, YOU ARE THE COMMUNICATOR' 3) Collect appropriate equipment 4) Communicate what actions have been taken and what equipment used 5) Attempt to identify the source/type 6) Conduct secondary heat source checks

1) Attract the attention of a third CC to be the commander and clearly state - 'I AM THE COMMUNICATOR, YOU ARE THE COORDINATOR' 2) Alert the FD with the nearest inter phone, stating name, location and all known info USING LESS 3) Listen and ask relevant questions 4) Pass on clear and concise info 5) Ask CAP to STANDBY if new info is present

- Who is speaking and from where - Where the smoke, fire or fumes is coming from - If the source has been found - If the electric have been isolated - Accurate detailed of what can be seen/heard/smelt - No. of extinguishers used - Reaction and situation of PAX

What is the drill for the coordinator?
1) Bring back-up equipment to firefighter 3) Remove portable 02 from the area 4) If required move and reassure PAX 5) Inform SCCM 6) Turn off IFE/seat power if necessary 5) Utilise any other CC as relevant 6) Update firefighter and communicator 7) Monitor the area for the remainder of the flight

What do you do with an overheated PED after the flames have been extinguished?
- Use fire gloves to remove the PED and place it in a large container - Submerge PED in water - Leave container and PED in toilet for remainder of flight

What is the drill for a PED fire in the FD?
- If flames are present use BCF/HAFEX extinguisher - Exercise caution using water over electrical equipment - Move PED into a large container - Submerge in water - Remove PED from the FD

- Identity of the item? - Exact location where it may have dropped or slipped? - Has the seat moves since loosing the item?
