Specialised cells Flashcards
(4 cards)
How are sperm cells adapted to their function?
They have a tail for movement, many mitochondria for energy, and enzymes to penetrate the egg.
How are egg cells adapted to their function?
They contain nutrients in the cytoplasm for the embryo and have a membrane that changes after fertilisation to prevent entry of other sperm.
How are ciliated epithelial cells adapted to their function?
They have cilia to move substances like mucus across the cell surface.
What conclusions can be drawn about a cell’s function from its adaptations?
The structure and features of a cell are related to its specific role or function in the body.
