Quadruple treatment for H Pylori
GERD
Can present with chronic cough
- cough is due to stimulation of the distal esophagus, not chronic aspiration
cough will resolve with antireflux drug therapy.
- trial of acid suppression with PPI may be beneficial in evaluating chronic cough.
- Response to treatment may be seen within 2 weeks, but the drug should be continued for at least 6 to 8 weeks.
Functional dyspepsia
characterized by one or more of the following Rome IV criteria:
postprandial fullness
early satiety
epigastric pain
epigastric burning.
Functional dyspepsia can be treated with:
antacids
antidepressants
other prescription products.
Several herbal products, to include:
STW 5
peppermint plus caraway oil
turmeric,
These have been shown to improve symptoms without significant adverse effects. The current American College of Gastroenterology guideline states that herbal medicines may be effective and their use can be suggested.
