Supraspinatus Tendinitis And Impingement Flashcards

(5 cards)

1
Q

Supraspinatus tendinitis

A

Common shoulder condition characterised by inflammation or irritation of the Supraspinatus tendon. This tendon plays a crucial role in shoulder movement and stability.

Q

Supraspinatus impingement

A

Occurs when the Supraspinatus tendon irritated or compressed as it passes through the subacromial space. This compression can lead to pain, inflammation, and restricted movement.

Q

Causes of Supraspinatus impingement

A

Narrowing of subacromial space which can result from:
-bone spurs on the acromion
-inflammation of the bursa
-rotator cuff tendonitis or partial tears
-repetitive overhead activities such as swimming, tennis or weightlifting
-age- related degeneration of the tendon.

Q

Test to differentiate between Supraspinatus impingement and tendinitis.

Supraspinatus impingement: pain when arms lifted above shoulder height

Isometric test in neutral position: painful in tendinitis but not impingement
