Systolic And Diastolic Blood Pressure Flashcards
(11 cards)
Systolic blood pressure
Force of blood pushing against your artery walls when your heart beats
Diastolic blood pressure
Pressure in your arteries between heart beats, when your heart rests
What is the top number
Systolic
How to measure systolic
When your heart is contracting, and pushing blood in your arteries
How to measure diastolic
Measured when heart is resting and filling with blood
Why is systolic more important
It reflects the force produced by the heart to get the blood to the body
Blood pressure
Forced exerted by the blood on the walls of the arteries, whilst the heart pumps it around the body
Hypertension
High blood pressure, systolic higher than 140 and diastolic higher than 90
Hypotension
Low Blood pressure systolic lower than 110 and diastolic lower than 70
Consequences of high blood pressure
Stroke, heart attack, kidney damage
Consequences of low blood pressure
-Cardio conditions
-underlying health conditions
-can cause symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, weakness, fatigue, blurred vision, pale and cold skin
