Tendinitis
Acute inflammation of a tendon. Due to acute injury of repetitive stress
Tendinopathy
Chronic tendon degeneration and changes in the tendon structure. No acute inflammation. The name is made up of tendinosis (degeneration of tendon) and tendonitis (inflammation of a tendon).
Tendinitis cause
Repetitive stress or sudden injury
Tendinopathy cause
Repetitive overuse or poor healing of past injury
Tendinitis symptoms
Pain, swelling, warmth
Tendinopathy symptoms
Persistent pain, stiffness, thickening of tendon
Tendinitis duration
Short term, resolves with rest. RICE. Rest, Ice, compression elevate.
Tendinopathy duration
Long term, can last for months or years
Tendinitis treatment
rest, Ice, anti-inflammatory meds
Tendinopathy treatment
Rehabilitation, strengthening exercises, sometimes surgery
