The Conduction System Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is pulmonary circulation?
flow of deoxygenated blood to the lungs and oxygenated blood back to the heart
What is systemic circulation?
movement of oxygenated blood from the heart through the rest of the body and deoxygenated blood back to the heart
what do the semi-lunar valves do?
prevent expelled blood from entering back into the heart
What does the septum of the heart do?
its the wall dividing the left and right of the heart
What is the cardiac conduction system?
a group of specialised cardiac muscle cells in the walls of the heart that send signals to the heart muscles causing it to contract.
What are the 5 steps of the electrical impulse?
- SA node
- VA node
- bundle of his
- bundle branches
- purkinje fibres
what’s the P-wave?
depolarisation of atria in response to SA node triggering
what’s the PR interval?
delay of AV node to allow filling of ventricles
what’s the QRS complex?
depolarisation of ventricles, triggers main pumping contractions
what’s the ST segment?
beginning of ventricle repolarisation and it should be flat on the graph
what’s the T-wave?
ventricular repolarisation
diastole definition
filling
systole definition
ejection
how many stages of a heartbeat are there?
4
What are the 4 stages of a heartbeat known as?
- atrial diastole
- ventricular diastole
- atrial systole
- ventricular systole
atrial diastole
atriums filling up with blood
ventricular diastole
ventricles filling with blood
atrial systole
atriums contracting
ventricular systole
ventricles contracting
