What does transfer of learning mean?
The influence or effect that learning one task has on the learning of another.
What is positive transfer?
The learning of one skill/ action helps in learning another.
What is an example of positive transfer?
In learning a volleyball ball serve through a tennis serve as they have the same shoulder action
What is negative transfer?
The learning of one skill/ action hinders the learning of another
What is an example of negative transfer?
A NFL tackle and rugby tackle as rugby you have to wrap unlike NFL
What is zero transfer?
When the learning of a skill/ action has no effect on learning another.
What is an example of zero transfer?
A somersault in gymnastics and cricket bowl have no connection
What is bi-lateral transfer?
Learning is transferred from limb to limb.
What is an example of bi-lateral transfer?
Learning a cartwheel on both sides
What is proactive transfer?
When a skill presently being learnt has an effect on future skill or tasks - could be positive, negative or zero
What is an example to proactive transfer?
In gymnastics working giants independently on there own, and then working them throughout a routine
What is retroactive transfer?
When a skill presently being learnt has an effect on previously learnt skills - positive, negative or zero
What is an example of retroactive transfer?
Cheerleading straddle jump as arms go through legs and gymnastics straddle jump as arms go out
