Unit 5 Flashcards
What are the steps of Meiosis?
2(PMAT + C)
What is the difference between meiosis 1 and 2
Meiosis 1 deals with homogulous pairs, while 2 deals with sister chromatids
What does meiosis produce?
4 unique haploid cells
What is complete dominance, and its ratio?
Dominant allele completely takes over recessive (3:1)
What is co-dominance, and its ratio?
Heterozygous will have both phenotypes (blue with yellow spots) (1:2:1)
What is incomplete dominance, and its ratio?
Heterozygous will be a blend between the two phenotypes (green) (1:2:1)
What is a dihybrid?
Mix of 4 alleles
What’s the ratios of a dihybrid cross with complete dominance?
9:3:3:1
What’s the ratio of a dihybrid cross with incomplete or co-dominance?
6:3:3:2:1:1
What is autosomal inheritance?
A gene located on a non-sex chromosome
What is a sex linked trait?
Allele found on sex chromosome
What is maternal inheritance?
A gene which is located in the mitochondrial/chloroplast’s DNA
What are linked traits?
Alleles found on the same gene.
What causes genetic variation?
Crossing over, independent assortment, law of segregation, and random fertilization
What is phenotypic plasticity?
The ability for one’s phenotype to change based on environmental cues.
