Factors affecting urban climate?
A
Air quality- poorer than rural areas due to greater use of fossil fuels. Carbon monoxide (produced from power stations/vehicle combustion). Sulphur dioxide (produced through combustion of fossil fuels,mixes with water vapour to produce sulphuric acid,can make acid rain damaging buildings
Urban heat island effect- urban areas significantly warmer than rural surroundings due to modern materials (steel/glass deflects heat onto buildings and street levels (more concentrated/trapped) airflow( wind from rural areas are intercepted by buildings so air isn’t dispersed.
