How much urine can be collected from manually restrained mice?
50-500 uL in 2 minutes.
Where should the tip of a urinary catheter be placed?
Just beyond the junction of the neck of the bladder with the urethra
How can proper positioning of the catheter be tested?
Injecting a known volume of air through the catheter. Inability to remove all of the air indicates improper positioning.
Why is urinary bladder catheterization unique in GP?
Can be accomplished relatively easily in the male, but the male will almost always ejaculate as the catheter is placed and block the catheter.
Why is ureter catheterization unique in rabbits?
Ureters are very friable and prone to intraluminal bleeding, which can obstruct catheter with blood clots. Development of a double -lumen catheter which allows irrigation with saline.
