Attitudes are evaluative statements or judgements (favourable/unfavourable) concerning people objects or events.

What are the 3 components of Attitudes
Cognitive, Affective and Behavioural component
Define Cognitive component of Attitude
Cognitive component: which is a value statement; the opinion or belief part of an attitude
define Affective component of Attitude
Affective component: critical part of an attitude, the emotional or ‘feeling’ part of an attitude
define Behavioural component of Attitude
Behavioural: Intention to act based on cognitive & affective parts.
What are the types of work attitudes and explain them :
Job Satisfaction: General attitude towards one’s job (positive/negative).
Job Involvement: Identifying with job, active participation, performance important to self-worth (high involvement = low absenteeism/turnover).
Employee Engagement: Enthusiasm and excitement about one’s work.
Organisational Commitment: Identifying with an organisation and its goals, wishing to stay. (Better predictor of turnover than job satisfaction).
Affective Commitment: Emotional attachment.
Continuance Commitment: Desire to stay (cost of leaving).
Normative Commitment: Feeling of obligation, loyalty to
values/ethics.
Perceived Insider Status: Feeling valued and part of the organisation.
Perceived Organisational Support (POS): Belief that the organisation values contributions and cares about well-being.
What are the sources of attitudes
From parents, teachers, peers; some genetic basis.
Modelled after admired/feared individuals.
Less stable than values; can be changed to affect job behaviour
