Descriptive Statistics
procedures for depicting the main aspects of sample data, without necessarily inferring to a larger population, which include the mean, median, and mode to indicate central tendency, as well as the range and standard deviation that reveal how widely spread the scores are within the sample
Central Tendency
the middle or center point of a set of scores
Mean
the numerical average of a set of scores, computed as the sum of all scores divided by the number of scores
Median
the midpoint in a distribution, that is, the score or value that divides it into two equal-sized halves
Mode
the most frequently occurring score in a set of data, which is sometimes used as a measure of central tendency
Range
a measure of dispersion obtained by subtracting the lowest score in a distribution from the highest score
Percentile
the location of a score in a distribution expressed as the percentage of cases in the data set with scores equal to or below the score in question
Correlation
the degree of a relationship (usually linear) between two variables
