What are the 4 CI’s
- Absolute

Can you treat an absolute CI?
No
Can you treat a relative CI?
Yes
What are some absolute full-body CI’s?
- Contagious infections
- Significant fevers
- Severe primary organ/system dysfunction
What are some relative full-body CI’s?
- Mildly contagious infection
- History of cardiovascular disease
- History of organ dysfunction
Can you treat ICBC or WORKSAFEBC patients as a student?
Never
List some absolute local CI’s
- Undiagnosed lump
- Recent sprain/fracture
- Recent wounds, burns, scars (<6 weeks)
- Severe varicose veins
- Recent contusion
- Infectious diseases of skin (eg. Impetigo, Ringworm, Scabies**)
- Thrombosis/Phlebitis
- Frostbite
- Sunburn
- Acute inflammation

- Benign tumor/cyst
- Non-recent sprain/fracture

What is light stroking?
An application of stroking with minimal pressure
What are some indications for light stroking?
- Insomnia
- Muscle spasms/spasticity
- Stress
- Neuralgia/Neuritis
What are some effects of light stroking?
- SNS firing
- Lymphatic return when applied in the direction of venous and lymphatic return
- Stimulation of cutaneous sensory neurons
What are the biomechanics and application of light stroking?
- Use one or two hands moving in a rhythmical fashion
- Hands and wrists should be relaxed but not floppy
- Use minimal pressure and go slow
